About Me
We are a couple in our early 60s wandering around Southeast Asia, and China for six months. We just spent 2.5 months in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Now we have 3.5 months in China. In Southeast Asia we booked our own transportation and hotels, and often booked day or half day tours in the citiies we visited. Our budget is $250/day total. We have usually stayed in hotels for less than $80/night. I am pretty fit, but Melissa does tire on hilly treks. I am a retired lecturer in Computer Science at the University of California at Davis. Melissa is a retired city planner. I expect to be able to speak to my tour guide about a wide range of topics related the area we are touring. I love history, art, and politics (though will avoid current politics if requested). Melissa loves histroy, art, urban and natural landscapes. We are traveling with two 35 liter day packs. We are not shoppers! I've already spent whole days in two art museums in Singapore and Bangkok. I do not expect my guide to know art. Because of my penchant to take a long time in museums, in big cities with museums, I expect to have a free day to explore them.
We also like a good walk (or trek for me). Though I handled a 12 km hike in hilly Sapa, Melissa exceeded her limit because of the constant change of elevations. Nonetheless, if an area has a great, but difficult trek, Melissa has agreed to let me do it alone with a guide.
