About Me
In Javanese, "omah" means "house", and "Kandangan" is the name of the village where it is located.
Hi, I'm Retno Sofyaniek, but you can call me Neno. I am an English teacher turning into a tour guide. I've been living in Bali, but I'm originally from Blitar, East Java. My main job is teaching English. However, I have recently grown up a fondness towards history, anthropology, and culture, especially ones of my own origin. That's when I decided to start my own tour guiding activity with the aim of introducing my small hometown, Blitar, to the world.
Blitar is a regency in the province of East Java, Indonesia. It is located in the southeast of Java Island. It is famous mostly because it is where the first Indonesian President, Soekarno, was from, in which where his tomb is also located. Blitar lies mostly on agriculture, with very thick combination of Java and Islam traditions. It is also rich in history, in which many ancient temples dating back to the 12th century can be found here.
"Omah Kandangan" is a haven for travelers who are looking for something different. As old as more than a hundred years, this old Javanese-styled house still stands in its original condition and has never been renovated. Staying in this house will give you a true Javanese experience. You will eat only what it is available in the surrounding nature and help the householders do their daily chores as villagers. I myself think staying in this house is like going back to the past, the old Java. A truly adventurous experience.
If you're interested in seeing what Omah Kandangan, Kandangan Village, and Blitar have to offer, please have a look at my photo album (the collection is not completed yet - thank you for your patience).
Hope to see you here soon. Best regards.
