It is naturally customary to purchase at least one cup of tea at Chinese Tea Houses. There is a buffet meal, a ’welcome’ cup of tea, and various snacks and treats - all free ... as long as you buy one cup of tea. The cheapest cup of tea is 48 yuan. Unfortunately the menu is entirely in Chinese, so you may have to guess and point if you are language-disabled. Still, the menu is composed of all "famous" and traditional Wuxi treats, and the atmosphere is classically Chinese and interesting. The tea house is on Xue Qian Jie to the west of Zhong Shan Lu on the north side of the street.

A relatively new restaurant in Wuxi, Banana Leaf opened its doors in early 2006. It is a great place to dine a group of friends, and enjoy or even join in with the upbeat, song and dance performances put on the by the restaurant's staff as they entertain your table with some musical treats. The food is (mostly) Thai cuisine, the music is (mostly) Latin, and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant is on the north side of the street at number 88 RenMin Lu (人民路）  to the east of Zhong Shan Lu （中山路）. Look for the Party World building.

Romano Pizza's interesting decor features a number of table choices including birdcage-like booths. Pizzas are available in an an assortment of styles such as cheese-stuffed crust, which do come with an extra price-tag. Romano's is located about 100 metres down Chong Ning Lu, which runs east-west to the east of Zhong Shan Lu at the city centre on the north side of the street.

While they don’t only sell pizza, their pizzas are still particularly nice. They have some notable deals on steak meals. Add some side dishes and a glass of wine to one of their big, luscious, and wonderfully tender steaks for a mere 20-30 yuan. You may also want to try an Italian noodle dish such as the spaghetti bol. The menu contains pictures, and some staff members cann speak some English. Champion Pizza is located on Chong Ning Lu, which runs east-west on the east side of Zhong Shan Lu at the city centre.

If you visit this one after dark you may feel a bit intrepid at first heading down an unlikely-looking narrow laneway to find it. Curry House is a small Japanese restaurant with good service and tasty, reasonably-priced food. The menu has pictures too. If you head west along Ren Min Lu  from Zhong Shan Lu, you will come to a cross roads with Jian Kang Lu. Jian Kang Lu is parallel to Zhong Shan Lu, and there is a big bookshop, called Xin Hua, on the opposite corner. Turn left onto Jian Kang Lu. Then turn left again into the little alley a few metres down the street, just past the bookshop on the other side. Curry House is down the alley, about 80 metres, on the left.

Early Vegetarianism  is a great little restaurant with a slightly odd name. It is located in an arcade a little back off Zhong Shan Lu (中山路) just south of Xue Qian Jie at 118 Zhong Shan Lu.  Besides a pleasant and healthy, smoke-free environment, no msg, and no meat, there are even many delicious foods that taste remarkably similar to meat (without the obligatory bones that come in most meat here). Prices are reasonable (around 20 yuan for a plate), especially if you go with a group and share. Fruit juices, smoothies and herbal teas are nice compliments, but can crank up the total price of a meal.
