Haozhiyuan is a small sushi joint.  Two to three chefs toil away in the middle of the Sushi bar preparing items that are placed on a conveyor belt that encircles them.  The chefs also prepare orders from the menu if requested.

 

The various plates of sushi cost either 5, 9, or 12 yuan, which represents mid-range prices for Sushi places in Nanjing.

 

Haozhiyuan is generally quite busy during the lunch rush and suppertime, but is not packed to the extent that there are no seats available.

 

Private rooms are suitable for up to 6 guests and can be reserved.  Guests who reserve a private room are required to spend at least 200 yuan not including liquor.

The fare served at Corner sits somewhere between authentic Western and Chinese-Western cuisine.

 

Ribs and chicken are the two most popular dishes at Corner. The ribs are flawless, hands down. However, the fat and skin on the chicken breast are much more similar with the way in which chicken is served in China. Therefore the chicken is a hit with the local Nanjingren, but a miss with the standard Western foreigner who conversely enjoys the ribs.

 

In a nutshell, the food at Corner is quite good compared with other Chinese-owned Western restaurants. However, the cuisine here falls well short of the standard set by some actual authentic restaurants in Nanjing. A contradiction indeed.

 

The atmosphere is very comfortable.  Soft music, small tables, and special love-seats make Corner suitable for dates or small groups.  The service is great and the servers speak enough English to read the menus.

 

 Walk down a small alley on the west side of Taiping Bei Lu.  Corner is on the first floor and on the corner of a building that contains a larger restaurant.

If you are looking for a Dairy Queen or Orange Julius in Nanjing, here they are.  This is a combined stall in the bottom of Dayang Department Store.  They only sell desserts and drinks.

 

Dairy Queen is a fast food chain from the USA that sells a variety of creative ice cream products.  Compared to local ice cream places in Nanjing it is expensive, but compared to Haagen Dazs or other international brands it is in the low to mid price range.

Golden Han’s BBQ

 

Golden Hans boasts a quiet and comfortable dining environment, good service, its own special beer, brewed on location, and savory Western style BBQ. There are tables that seat two, four and ten persons.  Golden Hands is best suited for a meal with a group of friends, small parties, or large scale banquets. The price is very reasonable when compared with the amount of food patrons will receive. There are limited seats for casual customers, so it is often best to make a reservation two or three days in advance.

 

Note: On the Golden Hans brochure it says that they will charge an extra ￥30 to any guest who wastes more than 150g of food, however it seems they do not actually follow up on this threat.

After sampling the Sunward Fishery Restaurant twice, I discovered that it is truly an excellent place to dine. The restaurant boasts a spectacular facade with a large parking lot outside. The decor within the restaurant is equally grand and luxurious, so the restaurant is an ideal place to hold banquets. While dining, the quiet and cozy atmosphere makes for a suitable environment to discuss important topics such as business.

As is obvious from the establishment’s name, the restaurant specializes in fish dishes and seafood. An impressive and enjoyable part of the dining experience is the way in which you order. Instead of browsing the menu, patrons walk around an exhibition hall of sorts to look at the display dishes. Then the waiter accompanying them will note what they wish to order. After ordering, an elevator takes guests to the dining hall.

Meals here are relatively expensive; of course the fine service tip is included. The meal costed us about 500 yuan for four people, not including alcohol.
