Overseas returnee, Violet Li, is launching her bridal creations in China for the first time under the name "Bihe." Her designs, currently sold in the US and Japan, offer refreshingly modern and simple lines rather than gaudy, out-dated styles that currently saturate the market. The retail store environment mixes the same clean lines and colors with vintage decor and music that invokes the feeling romance and sizzle of 1920s Paris.

The camera market deals in a wide range of local and imported cameras, digital electronic devices, photosensitive materials, studio props, photographic lightings, enlargement equipment, hot and cold mounting machines, along with photography books, bridal gowns, headgear and wigs, cosmetics, wedding goods, studio lightings and advertising goods. You name it, the Camera City has got it.

Camera City is also a centre for photography education, with schools for training photographers and photographic artists.

The location of the Gaobeidian antique shopping street is a little inconvenient, as it's just inside the fifth ring road. Still, it is well worth the trek  for dedicated antique shoppers. Gaobeidian is basically a street lined with antique store after store, many of which have a warehouse feel. Don’t make the mistake of getting stuck in the first shop as there are certainly many more with similar items like it further along the street. After a while it’s difficult to tell one shop from the next. 
 
Much of the furniture are quite obviously reproductions (the fact that they are still covered in plastic being the first give-away). The starting prices seem very high, so be prepared to work hard in order to bargain the prices down.  All in all, Gaobeidian is a fairly unique place to shop, and a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The Foreign Languages Bookstore is a four-storey store near the north end of Wangfujing shopping street. This is a great place for English teachers seeking teaching resources as it carries many well-known text books. Those wanting to learn Chinese will also find a range of books and study aids here. Other books you will find here include text books, travel guides, many books on China (mostly on the ground floor), contemporary novels and a good collection of English classics at very reasonable prices (think Jane Austen and Charles Dickens).

Jenny Lou’s is bound to be mentioned in any conversation about where to find Western food items in Beijing. Jenny’s has capitalized on the ever increasing demand for foreign goods that are hard to come by in Chinese supermarkets. These goods include cereals, muesli, chocolates, yoghurt, cheese and other dairy products. Although prices are not nearly as cheap as Chinese supermarkets, they are on par with other outlets selling foreign foodstuffs (and in fact more reasonable than supermarkets in malls or hotels where you often pay a very high premium for imported goods). You’ll be able to do a one-stop shop as Jenny’s stocks the above items as well as household items, toiletries, and fresh fruit and vegetables.
 
Jenny’s is a lot smaller than the other expat favourite, Carrefour, which has a lot more variety (but also a lot more crowds).
