If you’re sick of bringing a fan, a T-shirt, a fake Gucci watch or some other of the usual China memorabilia back home, why not try something new and innovative. The small shop of Wo xing wo su, from Chongqing, is offering a quite interesting product. It is located near to Meishuguan, the Beijing National Art Museum. They make puppets according to a photo and can model just about everything that you need. Prices range from 100-1000 RMB, the more complicated you get, the higher the price. The production time for one piece is 10-15 days, so you can order it and pick it up on your way home. Every puppet is hand made and produced entirely according to customer demand. It is a very good present for marriages or birthdays, as it really is something special and personal. They have done jobs for foreigners as well, so you’ll not be the first one.

Nonetheless, the vendors can be quite pushy, sometimes even tugging on your sleeve to try and get you to visit their store.  Apart from it’s smaller size, there is nothing that sets this market apart from other markets as the merchandise on offer is much the same as elsewhere. Sunny Golden Street is a certainly a good option if you live in the Lido area. If not, combine a visit to this market with other shopping options in the area, which include the Lido Place Mall, a few bakeries, Tom’s DVD shop, Jenny Lou’s and a few interior design shops.
