Some brand name products have more expensive foreign-produced versions in the imported products aisle and less expensive domestically produced versions spread throughout Carrefour.

A bit out of the way, it would be simplest to take a cab.

The second location is in the Da Xinggong (大行宫) People’s square two storeys underground.  This is next to the new Nanjing Library (南京图书馆) and on Zhongshan Dong Lu (中山东路).  It’s all underground so look for the entrance in the picture to the right.

How To Get There

This store is located on Hankou Xi Lu right next to a large Suguo convenience store and across the street from Skyways Bakery & Deli (It moved to No. 160 Shanghai Road).  These stores in combination with a few DVD shops, Korean restaurants, and a McDonalds make this locale a hot-spot for foreign students.

The Mixc is a large shopping mall housing designer clothes, fashion accessories, cosmetics, a supermarket, a cinema and an ice rink. This is an upmarket shopping centre in the same vein as Citic City Plaza. The biggest difference is that Ole, the basement level supermarket, stocks a greater variety of Western food and cooking products than Jusco, its counterpart at Citic City. Having said that, most of the products are imported and come at a high price. Therefore, before going on a spending spree here be sure to check out local supermarkets to make certain that what you are buying cannot be produced to the same quality or at all in China. It is also probably best to eat before entering the supermarket and for this Mixc provides shoppers with Pizza Hut, a Japanese noodle restaurant, Taco Bell Grande, Haagen Dazs, Illy Coffee Shop and Starbucks.
 
How to get there
The Mixc is opposite the Diwang Mansion on Shennan Middle Road. It has its own exit from Da Ju Yuan metro station and can also be reached by bus nos. 12, 101 113 and 204.

Over 200 stores and shops housed in traditional buildings sell a complete selection of clothes, appliances, food, commodities, and other luxury goods. Five squares decorated in different styles are arranged along this street with greenery, springs, cafes, and bars. Along the street are buildings that housed old banks, stores and statues. Every aspect of the street contributes to retelling the history of Wuhan. How to Get There: You can take the tourist special line of Bus 401 from the Wuchang Railway Station or Bus 533 from the Hankou Railway Station. Otherwise take No.1 or No.2 trolley buses; or the No.1, No.2, No.24 or No.45 buses.

How to get there: Deji Plaza sits right on the busiest intersection of Xinjiekou.  Xinjiekou subway station Exit #7 leads directly to the basement of Deji.

Citic City Plaza

Buses 14, 101, 204 and 215 stop at Citic City Plaza. The Ke Xue Guan metro stop, exit D, is a two minute walk away. The mall can be entered from Shen Nan Middle Road  or Nan Yuan Road.

Golden Eagle Shopping Centre

Located in the Xinjiekou downtown area, the Gold Eagle Shopping Centre symbolizes the top level of consumerism in Nanjing. Although the categories of goods are similar to other stores, Golden Eagle boasts a selection of world-renowned brands which are rarely seen elsewhere in Nanjing.  Brands include CARA, ELANIE, JESSICA and udb for womens clothing and Dior, Lancome, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and Vichy for cosmetics. The prices are even quite high when compared  with the same products in Europe. Also, Gold Eagle does not offer large discounts or promotions like some other stores.  However, with a VIP card you may be entitled to a 5% discount.

There are at least 5 small console video game stores on Zhongyang Road (also called Zhongyang Lu or Central Road on some signs).  They have games, consoles, and accessories for Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PSP and the Nintendo Gamecube, Gameboy, and DS.  The shops also have a few Nintendo systems that can’t be found in other places including the original IQue (A controller that downloads N64 games) and the IQue DS (The Chinese version of the Nintendo DS).
 
The consoles are actually more expensive than they are in North America. The games, which are “not fake”, but rather “copied”, are of course much cheaper.  There are some original games, but these games are a bit harder to come by.  For systems that cannot yet play copied games it should be easy to find at least some original games.
 
The video game shops are spread out over a space of 3 blocks.  The largest shop, which actually contains 3 separate vendors within, is on the east side of Zhongyang Road and is the closest to the subway station.  Take the subway to Gulou station and then walk north along Zhongyang Road to reach the largest shop.  The other stores are 1 to 2 blocks further north on the west side of Zhongyang Road.  You may need to search around a bit if you are looking for something specific.  Prices between the stores are fairly similar, but for more expensive items you should be able to cut down the price by bartering and weighing your options.  Staff members in all locations are very knowledgeable about their products, but they do not speak English.

Note: If you are using a console that you have brought to China from another country make sure it has a proper voltage converter.

Ladies Market is on Tung Choi Street in Mong Kok. Similar to the Temple Street Night Market, Ladies Market is also a reliable place to shop for bargain items. However, the goods at both markets are relatively similar, except that you won't find collectibles such as Mao memorabilia, old posters, coins and opium pipes in the Ladies Market. Despite what the name suggests, many items are still suitable for men and children.

In the vicinity of Ladies Market, two other streets run parallel to Tung Choi Street selling sports goods (Fa Yuen Street) and consumer electronics (Sai Yeung Choi Street).

Hours of Operation:

Ladies Market is open everyday from noon until 11:30pm.
 
Tips:
 
(1) Aside from walking in the middle of the street to look at the items in various stalls, do not miss the shops on either side of the street hidden behind the stalls. There you can also find some restaurants to take a break while shopping.
 
(2) The prices at the stalls are cheap, but do not expect to find real designer products. The items sold at shops in Mong Kok (except chain stores) are usually cheaper than those in areas of Hong Kong Island such as Causeway Bay.
 
(3) If you seek intricate and expensive electronic products, it is wiser to rely on large chain stores instead of small shops.

Take MTR to Mong Kong MTR station. At exit E2 (Nelson Street exit), walk two blocks to Tung Choi Street.

Wenchang Department Stores

At the northeast corner of the intersection is the Wan Jia Fu (万家福) department store with 5 floors of just about every product under the sun. Many products include very entertaining translations as well.

At the southwest corner is the Golden Eagle (金鹰) department store which is pretty similar to Wan Jia Fu. Just west of Golden Eagle is Times Square (时代广场), a more typical mall. These places are a total zoo on the weekends, always making for a fun spectacle at the very least. For a more shopping experience, head over on a weekday.
