Pushing in subways is the rule , especially the chaotic peoples square station where lines 1,2,8 intersect . Just dig in and push ,don't feel sorry.Bumping into people in streets is commonplace and should not be a reason to get angry....

Just dig in and push ,don't feel sorry.Bumping into people in streets is commonplace and should not be a reason to get angry. Howerver compared to public transport in other chinese cities , the Shanghainese are better at letting people alight first and the mad rush for empty seats is not so bad. Your behaviour should follow the situation : if the station is crowded then pushing is acceptable , but if not then you are more like to be looked upon as an" uncivilised foreigner" also , outside the busy times you should stand to the right on the escalators to allow people to pass.
Because of Shanghai's international status and large expat population , foreigners are less likely to be stared at than in any other smaller cities unless you are in the distant surburbs or an area where many out of towners congregate i.e : bus and train stations.

For visitors who travel to China , the language barrier is likely to be the biggest obstacle , in shanghai , the local speaks Shanghai dialect , a wu phrasebook/wu dialect, is the language of the streets and very different from Chinese mandarin....

In addition ,Shanghainese speakers have a particular accent when speaking Mandarin. Mandarin is heavily tone -based and speakers from Beijing can easliy be understood ( most textbooks are based on their accent or an approximation),Shanghainese speakers , as the second-language learners of Mandarin themselves, have appropriated some of the features of the Shanghainese language into their mandarin. While in other language this would not be a problem, the slighest shift in pronunciation can make it much more difficult to understand , the best thing to do so is say " shuo man yi dian " which means " speaks a little slower".

This is a private, full-day trip from Shanghai to Hangzhou. After you are picked up in your hotel lobby in the early morning, you will take a bullet train to Hangzhou. This is the fastest way to Hangzhou and you can experience train speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. Your tour begins at one of Hangzhou's signature sites, the West Lake. Enjoy a lake cruise to see the top ten West Lake scenic views. You will then be taken to experience the wonderful cuisine of Hangzhou at a local restaurant. After lunch, you will visit Faxi temple, a well-known Temple dating back to the Jin Dynasty. See its famous wooden Buddha. Here, you will see fewer tourists and more locals. Finally, enjoy a cup of green tea when you visit the famous Longjing village to see wild fields of Longjing tea bushes where the locals produce the world famous green tea- Longjing Tea. In the village, all locals are tea farmers and you will see the entire procedure of making the famous tea and will get the chance to taste the best quality emperor tea. Afterwards, you will take the bullet train back to Shanghai and you will be returned to your hotel.

Meanwhile, cycle around the famous landmark Yu Garden, learn about Ghost Wedding rituals, visit a Traditional Chinese Medicine outlet and get to learn more about the "Paris of the East". Finally, tickle your taste buds with some delicious street food in order to immerse yourself deeper into local life.
