Holidays in China

China has different holidays than most other countries. The most important holidays you need to watch out as follow:

-Chinese new year holiday. For approximately 2 weeks in January or February every year, all factories and wholesale markets close down. Dates vary each year because of the lunar calendar used to set the date for this holiday.

-May day. In beginning of May (May 1st and forward) many Chinese factories and wholesale markets are closed. The factories often for upto a week, but wholesale markets usually only for 2-3 days.

-Mid autumn festival, or moon cake festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is in September or early October each year. Usually this is just a one day holiday in factories and wholesale markets. In the wholesale markets, some shops might be open, but don't count on it.

-National day. The Chinese National day is on October 1st. Usually this is followed by a whole week of vacation for factory workers.

Please note that some of these holidays are decide by the lunar calendar, not the Gregorian calendar, and the dates each year may therefore vary.
