Sighisoara city center

Sighisoara is one of the seven German fortresses that were built in Transylvania, a strategic defense area against invadors from the East. Situated in the center of the country, the city is beautifully organized around the city walls and defense towers bearing the names of the guilds that used and maintained them in medieval times. To mention some tourist attractions, the Gothic church that stands atop the hill, the School on the Hill to which 175 steps lead under cover of a wooden roof, the Church of the Monastery and also the famous Clock Tower, whose dancing little figures representing the days of the week draw attention when the hour is struck. As one comes down the hill passing beneath arches of brick and walking on stone streets, there stand medieval houses with thick walls and small souvenir shops or restaurants with open teraces where traditional or international food is served while you could admire the city panorama.
