Museum of Arts & Crafts

Constructed in 1905, the garden style building of No.79 on Fengyang Road is a model of the architectural style of the later period of the Renaissance of France. The building was originally a residence of the chairman of the board of directors of French Municipal Administration Office. Following the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it became the office of the United Nation's World Health Organization, the residence of Shanghai Mayor Chen Yi after the China's liberation and then the office of Sino-USSR Friendship Organization in 1954. It has been the location of Shanghai Arts and Crafts Institute since 1960. The buillding is highly praised in both architectural and cultural circles as an excellent model of modern times. Among locals, it's called "Little White House".
