The Hill´s Fortress

This fortress was once used to defend the port of Montevideo. It was built by according to the orders of the governor Francisco Xavier de Elío ant its construction was completed in 1839. It is built on 134 meters high hill called Cerro de Montevideo.

This is the only building of this kind that still stands. Inside of the fortress one can find the Military Musuem dedicated to Uruguayan army and its history. From the fortress, a beautiful view stretches across the Montevideo Bay.
