Batlle Park

Parque Batlle is a park and a barrio in Montevideo city. It is considered to be the ˝lung˝ of the city due to the great number of threes and plants that grow there. It covers 60 hecatres and it is home to the national football stadium as well to the The Ox Cart (Carreta) monument. The stadium was built in 1930, and the football World Cup won by Uruguay was held there. Since 1983 this stadium is a Historical Monument of the World Football.

In the beginning, the park covered only 11 acres of land that were donated by Pablo Nereo Gabriel Antonio Pereira. The landscape architect named Carlos Thays designed the look of the park in 1911. Parque Batlle was formerly known as the Allied Park (Parque de los Aliados).

The park has other sport facilities and it is perfect for walking, hiking or for a day in nature in the middle of a great city.
