Etowah Indian Mounds

Etowah Indian Mounds is an archeological site in Georgia, USA. This is a pre historic site that occupies 54 acre territory in Georgia. It is recognized as National Historical Landmark. From 1000 AD to 1550 AD this site was used as home to several thousand Native Americans. Etowah Mounds are the best preserved Mississippian Culture site with only nine percent of it being excavated. On its grounds, there are six earthen mounds, a plaza, village site, borrow pits and defensive ditch. People who built the mounds were ancestors of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and Poarch Band of Creek Indians. There is also a small museum where one can see items used by the native people from that period which speak of their traditions, way of life, and beliefs.
