hutong，originally from Mongolia ,it means well,it was the place where the officials during the Ming and Qing dynasty's  lived .y ,it is close to forbidden city .therea are two reasons, firstly, it is easy to manage them by emperor,secondly,the emperor want to make them feel that ,they live nearby the imperial residence.
