Zhouzhuang

Zhouzhuang was first built in 1086. It has 900 years’ history. Zhouzhong was named because of Mr. Zhou digong donated the land to build Qufu Temple. Zhou is his family name, people in order to appreciate him and changed this town name as Zhouzhuang, means Zhou’s town. It is the fisrt water town in China.

 

  Zhouzhuang has areas with 800 square kilometers. There is a story about Zhouzhuang.

  

In 1984, a man called Chen Yifei who studied in U.S. painted a painting named “Hometown Memories” with the material of Shuang Qiao. This painting together with other 37 works was showed in the United States chairman of Armand Hammer Gallery in October. It caused a sensation, especially the use of oil painting and traditional Chinese ink painting techniques created works depicting Suzhou bridges, rural scenery of the southern. It took American audiences to the mythical realm. The U.S. magazine "Art News" published a comment entitled "bold challenge to the Western trend”, devoted to the artistic achievements of Chen Yifei.

  

In November, Armand • Hammer visited China, the photograph of Chen Yifei "hometown memories" high-priced purchased as a gift, gave to Deng Xiaoping.From then Zhouzhuang was well-knew by people.

Later Chen Yifei processed it again as the United Nations’ first stamps cover. It became more and more famous.

Now it is the real life in it, there are also many people living in Zhouzhuang.
