The Marco Polo German Bierfest
As a staple annual Hong Kong event that has now officially been running for 20 years the Marco Polo German Bierfest is excitingly back in full force for 2011. Set amidst the backdrop of the Victoria Harbour, this has got to be one of the world’s most exclusive Oktoberfest venues. It is the most traditional, largest and longest running outdoor party in Asia that everyone raves about. Record numbers were reached last year when more than 40,000 guests converged and consumed more than 40,000 litres of beer; 30,000 sausages and 10,000 pretzels. In celebration of this year's 20th anniversary, the Marco Polo German Bierfest features a special edition beer from Löwenbräu the iconic Munich based brewery with a history that dates back to 1383. In addition, beer-mug-shaped souvenir hats will be distributed on-site to surprise guests on selected nights. Special edition beer mugs printed with the 20th anniversary logo will also be given to adults on Fridays & Saturdays.
The event takes place in the open-air on the 6/F carpark platform of the Marco Polo hotel, located just along from the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Terminal. Like traditional Oktoberfest celebrations, the Marco Polo Hotel have set up a big tent, with long wooden tables and benches holding a capacity of 1,500 people. Of course, like all other German Oktoberfests, the event also features a dangerous selection of beers and authentic fried gastronomic dishes, plus a number of games and entertainment.
So get your knee-high shorts and braces out, get your dancing shoes on, and get ready to don those German beer goggles!
