Hall of Embodied Treasures ◆

The Hall of Embodied Treasures was constructed in 1913 by the Beiyang Government at the site of the Palace of Universal Peace to store cultural relics transported to Beijing from the Shenyang Imperial Palace and the Chengde Mountain Resort. As the only structure built in the Republic of China period (1912-1949) in the Forbidden City, the hall wasn't opened to the public until May 2015.

Palace of Compassion and Tranquility

The Palace of Compassion and Tranquility was constructed in order to house the wives of late emperors. Additionally, important ceremonies were held here to celebrate the birthdays of empress dowagers. The southwest garden in the Palace of Compassion and Tranquility was where empress dowagers and concubines of late emperors relaxed and worshipped the Buddha. In October 2015, the area of the Palace of Compassion and Tranquility was officially opened to the public.
