Bubba Gump Shrimp and Co.

If you’re a fan of the Forrest Gump movie – or even if you’re not – chances are you’re going to love Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Started back in the States in 1996, this American seafood chain has proven to be extremely popular and it has spread like wildfire around America and the globe with the group now boasting outlets now in Mexico, Bali, Japan, Malaysia and our very own outlet on the Peak here in Hong Kong.

Looking over the skyline from the Peak Tower, the Hong Kong outlet possibly has the nicest view of any restaurant owned by the group - but while this is one appealing factor it is just one of many, as the kitchen serves up surprisingly good food and they have a quirky Forrest Gump themed interior as well. With slushy ice drinks served in glowing plastic cups and a rotatable license plate placed on each table (which you flip to call the waiter), this place is designed to be fun and is definitely suitable for kids. However, despite being slightly touristy and children-targeted, the grub is still tasty, with the menu featuring American comfort food such as shrimp steamed in beer, beer batter-covered seafood, ribs, burgers and - yes - more seafood dishes like calamari, salmon and prawn cocktail.

Nevertheless, you can never get bored with good seafood and Bubba’s family proved this in the movie. As Forrest said; “Bubba’s momma cooked shrimp, and her momma before her cooked shrimp and her momma before her momma cooked shrimp too.”
