Danjia on the East River
Danjia, or the Boat People, refers to the people who live on their small boat and make a living by fishing in the river or in the sea near the shore. These people float on the water and move in and out according to the movement of the tide. As their boats are small, they cannot go far into the ocean, therefore, their life is very hard. They are also known as Gypsies on the water. The picture shows a boat family on the East River, Guangdong Province.
