Beijing Planetarium

Beijing Planetarium

Being located just opposite of the Beijing Zoo, the Beijing Planetarium is the right kind of place to go, when you have a 5-14 year old kid, whishing to know just about anything. There are few exhibits, mostly leftovers from Meteoroids, but there is a special section on each of our planets, currently still including Pluto, as well as the sun and the moon. Quite interesting, really. The really interesting features of the Planetarium are the multiple shows offered. There are a 3D Space Simulator, being just a classical 3D cinema, as well as a SGI Digital Space Theater, offering a space show covering the whole universe, including all the stars and asteroids as well as offering explanations to other universes. The best show in the Planetarium is the 4D Theater, which offers a 20 minutes full senses experience of a trip into space. It really is fun! All of the shows have to be paid for separately. Currently the English language material at the museum is still too little, there is no overall English language guidebook available. A visit to the museum will take you about 90 minutes, depending on the number of shows you visit and on the time you spend learning about the Sun, Earth and Moon.

The Beijing Planetarium is one of the first places in Beijing to sport a can and plastic bottle recycling machine. So be sure to bring an empty one along and get your 1 Jiao return for it.

There are only few good restaurants nearby. One which can be recommended is the Defu Xinyuan which is a 10 minutes walk away. They serve quite good Sichuan food and reasonably priced Beijing Duck.
