Chongwu Ancity City in Quanzhou
Chongwu ancient city locates in the northern shore of Quanzhou Bay and the west coast of Taiwan Strait. It was built in 1387 by the Ming government as a front line defense against Japanese pirates, and it has survived the last 600 years.. There are four city gates at the four directions of the city with one beacon over each gate. The city wall was built with granites, which is 2.5 metres long and average 7 metres high. The Chongwu ancient city wall is one of the seven ancient city walls in China.
Chongwu is also famous for its stone carving. There are a big stone carving park inside the ancient city. The stone carvings there are of a large variety of statures and all of them are with profound meaning. These stone carvings record the history and culture of Chongwu and China.
Nowadays, as an important historic al and cultural site, the Chongwu ancient city has been listed by provincial tourism Bureau as the key construction project for tourism and the first batch of famous scenic spots.
