F & M Artspace

I showed up late to the F & M Artspace, around two in the afternoon, only to learn that all six of the exhibiting artists had been giving live demonstrations that very morning.  Live painting is one of the most unique Chinese traditions in painting.  It reveals the state of the artists mind as well as the pure concentration on the subject, line, and brush.  These modern subjects show light on the mind of the contemporary Chinese artist, with fresh subjects and extraordinary compositions.

Paintings by Liu Qi, one of China’s freshest pearls, are pictured below. I found his work to be the most outrageous of the six artists showing in the current exhibit.  Others, however, may enjoy more traditional subjects also present at this exhibition featuring Chinese watercolor techniques;  subjects such as bamboo, chyrsanthemum, orchid, and plum blossoms (called the "4 friends" of Chinese painting).
