Located in the large warehouse at the Taikang Road shopping area, L’Atelier Mandarine is a fantastic little shop specializing in cashmere and silk sleep attire. Like many of the shops in the warehouse, L’Atelier Mandarine is a large office where two small businesses both have their offices and sell products.
My favorite item at L’Atelier is the cashmere robe. The robes are hand knitted, gorgeously luxurious, and warm in a rugged way that works for either men or women. Beautiful silk nighties are also available.
The other business in the office features a woman who sells beautiful children’s clothing and blankets – wonderful gifts for a baby shower. The fabrics she uses are of great quality and impressively original.
Despite the European flare that both designers share, there is still an undeniably distinct Chinese influence . Either shop is ideal whether you are seeking gifts for yourself or others.
How to get there: Take Metro Line 1 to Shanxi Rd. Station. Exit onto Huai Hai Rd. and head east for one and a half blocks to Ruijin Rd. Take a right on Ruijin Rd, and then head south to Taikang Rd (about 15 minutes). Take a left on Taikang Rd. This road has several small shops, but keep an eye out for a shop called InSH on the left side of the street about 5 minutes down. There is an alley just before InSH (a shop with very cute t-shirts) where you need to turn left. Head down the alley and walk into the large warehouse on the right side of the alley. L’Atelier Mandarine is on the third floor.
