Sam's Guesthouse
The staff at Sam’s would prefer to play on the computer and ignore you, so be persistent. They can however book plane, train, and bus tickets as well as package tours, so try to be patient. The singles (10$/person) and doubles (7$/person) are worn out , but the Western style bathrooms are a nice perk. The dorms are worth the value and clean...enough. The hostel is quite proud of the tranquil garden adjacent to the dorms, but it’s not as if travellers spend their day hanging out in a hostel. Most importantly however, Sam’s Guesthouse does have a great location. It is literally around the corner from Tianfu Square and Chengdu’s main shopping and business district. If convenient location is important to you, then Sam’s is probably worth your while. If you are looking for comfort and a helpful staff, then look elsewhere.
Directions/Address: 130 Shanxi Jie. With Tianfu Square and the statue of Mao at your back, walk south on Renmin Lu. You’ll soon see Shanxi Jie on your right. The hostel’s reception is just past the grandiose RongCheng hotel.
