Papercutting

Papercutting is a long-standing, widely-spread folk art in China. It calls for a pair of scissors to cut color papers into various designs. On the

occasion of the Spring Festival, wedding, and other happy events, people prefer to paste beautiful, bright-colored papercuts on the white window

paper or window glass as well as on the walls, doors, and lanterns to heighten the joyous atmosphere. Papercutting is rich in content and

conveys a profoundly implied meaning. It touches on such subjects as flowers, birds, fish, insects, animals, legendary heroes, characters in

operas, bamboo, fruits, vegetables, and which the people place their hope and pursuit are important content. With a strong Chinese national

feature, papercutting is a concentration as well as an exaggeration of the traditional Chinese fine arts.
