Postal Service
The postal administration of Hong Kong is operated by government. It has been serving the community for 160 years and is now called Hongkong Post.
Opening Hours
There are over 120 post offices in Hong Kong, which you can find in both commercial and residential areas. They are open from 9:30am to 5:00pm from Monday to Friday and until 1:00pm on Saturday. The General Post Office at Connaught Place in Central and the Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office on Middle Road are both open from 8:00am to 6:00pm from Monday to Saturday and from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Sunday.
Local and Air Mail
If you want to post a letter or postcard, you can simply buy stamps and post through the service counter at any post office (HK$1.4 for local mail item weighing less than 30g, HK$3 for air mail item weighing less than 20g). For other packet size items, postage is counted according to the weight. Registration is also available at an additional cost of HK$14. Items sent locally would be received on the next working day.
Air or Surface Parcel
For large size items, you can post with the Parcel service, which is available in both air or surface.
Overseas Courier Service
If the items posted are time-sensitive, you may consider using Speedpost service. You may also use other well-known private courier companies such as UPS, FedEx, DHL and TNT.
Local courier service
Courier service is provided by many small courier companies in Hong Kong and also by Hongkong Post, which is called Local CourierPost (minimum charge is HK$25 per item). Local CourierPost items would be received within a half-working day after they are sent.
Receiving mail
The Poste Restante is a service provided for travelers to receive mail items in Hong Kong. Mail items could be collected at the General Post Office and Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office as mentioned above. Presentation of valid travel document is required.
The Postshop
If you want to buy gift items or postal souvenirs, you may visit the Postshop located at the ground floor of the General Post Office.
The Postal Gallery
The Postal Gallery is also located at the ground floor of the General Post Office. There you can find historical postal items such as post boxes and uniforms. There is also display of special and commemorative stamps. Visit and learn more about the interesting postal history of Hong Kong.

Tip:
The competitive edge of private courier companies is that they have their own planes in various countries, which means a better guarantee of time and easier trace of items. However, Speedpost also has its advantages over private courier companies. It is more convenient because it is available at all post offices and the custom clearance among the postal administrations is usually more efficient. Also the mail tracing service is just as reliable as that of the private courier companies.
