In the ancient times,north China being at war,south China  has been relatively calm and stability,so many  refugees moved to south.The people who moved from north to south, we call them Hakka,Hakka means guest people in Chinese.

When they moved to south,they own nothing,to protect themselves,so they had to create this Tulous.Fujian Tulous are mostly built between the 12th to the 20th centuries.A tulou is usually very large,with very thick walls between three and five stories high and housing up to 80 families.The top level of these Tulous have gun holes for defensing against bandits,there is no window on the frist and second floor for guarding against thefts.
