The Lingnan Impression Park, covering an area of 40.7 acres (16.5 hectares), is located on the south part of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center on Small Guwei Island. Its construction is based upon the original local Lianxi Village and it epitomizes the culture of the Lingnan area (a region that refers to the modern Chinese Provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong and Macau). Houses and temples are to be seen in traditional Cantonese style on both sides of the park’s main street – Lianxi Street. Walking down this street, visitors may feel they are in an old Guangzhou city.
Interesting Places to See
Featured Walls
Artisan local walls are an intrinsic part of the park experience. The main features for local constructions lie along the walls, Wok Handled Shaped Wall (Huo’er Wall), and the Oyster Shell-made Wall. It has been said that this kind of wall would bring descendants fortune and good luck in official career for hosts. The oyster shells were widely used in local architectures to keep warm as well as for drainage, so residences liked using them on the wall. Today, these two kinds of walls can hardly be seen in modern architectures, but can only be seen here along Lianxi Street.
Fok Family Big Ancestral Temple and Xiao Family Big Ancestral Temple
There are eight ancestral temples in the park and the most famous ones are the Fok Family’s and Xiao Family’s. The original Lianxi Village is the ancestral home of Henry Fok, so his family temple is in the village. His ancestral temple, first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and repaired in 2002, is still in service today. Inside, visitors can trace the footprint of Henry Fok’s ancestors. During Qingming Festival and Dragon Boat Festival, sacrifices are held by the Fok Family in the temple. The Xiao Family Big Ancestral Temple is now a martial arts museum, where visitors can enjoy professional Lion Dance performances.
Chen Mengji TV series filming site
Chen Mengji (1820-1888) was a locally famous lawyer in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The filming site includes Chen’s residence, and an administration area, which is a good place to understand the daily life of a local rich family. All the furnishings and decorations inside the house are arranged following the traditional style. Visitors can play as a lord of the house to experience how the wealthy people’s life was lived in historical times.
Hong Kong & Macau Specialty Stores
Inside the park, there are specialty stores called Hong Kong Stories and Macau Stories in which classic items representing the two cities are sold. These two stores open a window to modern people to learn more about the two cities’ history. Items related to casinos, churches, and those being used in daily time are placed in the Macau Stories. Hong Kong Stories sells food of Hong Kong, where different kinds of snacks such as almond cake, moon cake, tea, etc. can be found.
Besides the four representative places, visitors can walk along Lianxi Street to find Guangdong traditional daily items used, and many artware. The Chinese Wine Brewery is renowned for traditional wine production craftsmanship. In Guangzhou Daily Newspaper Hall, visitors can read the newspapers with traditional Chinese characters and see the ancient printing machines used. An Old Photo Studio will arouse your curiosity about black-and-white photographs and old cameras, and one can even try to develop a photo by themselves.
Paper-cutting crafts, wood carving lanterns, Guangzhou decorative porcelains, Xinhui’s famous crafts made by Chinese fan palm, Foshan’s wood engraving, silk crafts, ivory carvings, etc. can all be seen along Lianxi Street. Visitors can learn about the manufacturing process of these crafts at source, and learn first-hand from time-served masters.
After one reaches the end of Lianxi Street, they can choose to climb the Lookout Tower, which is the best location to see the park’s panorama.
If one feels hungry while traveling, authentic Cantonese meals are served in the park. Representative restaurants: Cantonese Restaurant, Lianxi Restaurant, Lianxi Tea House, and Liwan Tingzai Porridge Restaurant, are the optimal choices. The mouthwatering food, such as Liwan Sampan Porridge, Jook-sing Wonton Noodles, rice noodles with sirloins, and a plethora of diverse foods to tempt the palate of the most culinary uninspired and satisfy your appetite.
If one feels tired, they can choose to see shows in the park. Puppet shows, shadow plays, Impression Pearl River, Impression Lingnan, etc. is provided. Behind Lianxi Street, another attraction, Big Banyan Paradise, is also a great place for refreshing. Nearby, there is good fishing, barbeque your catch that evening, and invite friends round to have a great time.

According to the history record, Chinese ivory craftwork has a history of 3000 years. Guangzhou ivory carving turned up in Jin Dynasty about 2000 years ago. Ivory carving of Guangzhou was prosperous at the later stage of Ming Dynasty. After development through ages, it became gradually famous specialty in Guangzhou.
There are 5 pieces of big ivory of a bundle in the unearthed relics from the Nanyue King Tomb of the Western Han Dynasty, the longest one is up to 126cm. According to some identification reports from experts, these ivories might be transported all the long journey from Africa through the Silk Road on the Sea. And some ivory portrayed containers for holding wine, ivory chips for counting and fragmentary ivory carving utensil were also unearthed. It is obvious that these ivories were imported as the raw materials for caving. If the identification is true, then the history of ivory carving of Guangzhou is much longer.
Ivory carvings of Guangzhou are characters, ornaments, landscape bonsai, flowers, birds and the four treasures of the study (writing brush, ink, stick, ink slab and paper). There is a Ivory Craftwork Company in Da Xin Road of Guangzhou. This factory was already famous both home and abroad in 60es and 70es of last century. Ivory carvings are not only appreciation articles but also utility products such as folding fan, lamp, cigarette holder, pencil vase, comb, chopsticks, bookmark, toothpick and Chinese chess etc. A great number of people to Guangzhou like to bring some ivory carvings because they are convenient taking and impressive.
The ivory micro caving of Guangzhou is also famous in China. At the beginning of 1930s, Mr. Feng Gongxia, a famous micro carving artist of Guangzhou carved the whole text with 154 Chinese characters of the testament of Mr. Sun Yat Sen on an ivory as small as a grain of rice. He also carved the Communist Manifesto up to 25000 characters on a piece of ivory as big as a 64-mo paper (half of an A5 paper). His son Mr. Feng Shaoxia is also a micro carving master. He inherited the technique of his father and carved the eighteen arhat statues of different vivid images on an ivory as small as a grain of rice. It takes one’s breath away to see those wonderful microcarving articals excelling nature which represents the highest level of ivory carving of Guangzhou.

Most customers from Synotrip contact me whether to be their tour guide and interpreter during the new year .I was born in Guangzhou ,my hometown is Guangzhou, I know the culture of Guangzhou and Guangdong the best, that's why so many clients choose me to their interpreter.
One of clients contact me from Synotrip, now we become friends. He is obsess with chinese martial art and Bruce Lee, so he decide to come to China to follow the step of martial idol.
He ask me to plan a “discovery of martial art” trip for him. No doubt that Foshan, which is renowned for its martial art form, is the best place to him. In fact, the city of Foshan can be called the birth place and home town of this particular martial art form. The notable celebrity are Ip Man, Bruce Lee, and Wang Fei Hong who is a legendary martial art master and doctor and seldom foreigner know him.
We plan to visit Ip Man memory hall in Ancestral Temple first, after that, go to Bruce Lee ancestor house. Actually, we can go Ancestral Temple by metro from Guangzhou. There is a Guangfo line connected Guangzhou and Foshan, which it is more convenience for the people of two city. But considering the distance from Guangzhou East to Foshan, tight schedule, and the place of Bruce Lee ancestor house is a remote village hard to get there by public transportation, we decided to rent a car for traveling.
My friend arrived at about 9:30 am at Guangzhou East station, and after picking him up we headed to Ancestral Temple. The Foshan Ancestral Temple is commonly called Zumiao. It is a Daoist temple, museum, and exhibition center. The architecture, decor and articles on view in Foshan Ancestral Temple are remarkably refined, and are part of the unique historical heritage of Foshan.
Because my friend is a martial art fans, so we directly to the Ip Man memory hall.Ip man, a man dedicated to a Wing Chun, is a famous Chinese martial art master, had been a master of Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee learn Wing Chun and develop it in his Jeet Kune Do. In the museum, you can see a likeness of Ip Man, martial arts training equipment, and a plaque with information about him.
There is another memory hall for famous legendary martial artist and doctor named Wang Fei Hong. In this place,we also see a chinese traditional customs performance ---lion dance.
We are so deep addicted to enjoying the time in the Ip Man hall and lion dance without noticing that it comes to the afternoon. We need to head to next place - Bruce Lee Ancestor House, which it take one hour to arrive from temple.
Bruce Lee who is considered by many as the most influential martial artist of the 20th century, and an important cultural icon. He used Wing Chun, as his base, learned from the influences of other martial arts, and later created his own martial art philosophy — Jeet Kune Do.
The Bruce Lee Ancestral House located in Jun'an Town is another site for Bruce Lee fans to visit.Built by his grandfather, Lee came back to the house once and lived in the house for only a few days. Even though we only just saw the furniture and the introduction of him and his family, we still felt exciting stand a place which Bruce had been lived.
We spent a great day to feel the martial art culture and gorgeous historical building in Foshan. My friend is pretty good impressed and said that he must would share this experience to his martial art friend when he go back to UK.
