The steep hillsides in the Dazu area near Chongqing, contain an exceptional series of five clusters of rock carvings dating from the 9th to 13th centuries. The largest cluster at Beishan contains two groups along a cliff face 7-10m high stretching for around 300m. There are more than 10,000 carvings dating from the late 9th to the mid-12th century which depict themes of Tantric Buddhism and Taoism. Inscriptions give insight to the history, religious beliefs, dating and the identification of historical figures. The late 11thcentury Song dynasty carvings at Shizhuanshan extend over 130m and depict Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian images in a rare tripartite arrangement. The Song dynasty carvings at Shimenshan dating from the first half of the 12th century extend along 72m and integrate Buddhist and Taoist subjects. At Nanshan the Song dynasty carvings of the 12th century extend over a length of 86m and depict mostly Taoist subjects. The culmination in terms of expression of Tantric Buddhism is found in the U shaped gorge at Baodingshan which contains two groups of carvings dating from the late 12th to the mid-13th century near the Holy Longevity Monastery. The very large group to the west stretches for about 500 metres and comprises 31 groups of carved figures depicting themes from Tantric Buddhism as well scenes of herdsmen and ordinary life.

An offshoot of spicy Sichuan cuisine, Chongqing fare is noted for its sharper bite, even compared to other Southern chili-intensive cuisines like that of nearby Chengdu. Chili peppers, sesame seeds, fermented black beans, scallions, ginger, garlic, wine, soy sauce and an array of similarly pungent flavorings are used in conjunction with 40 different cooking methods, the most prominent of which is drying, salting, spicing, pickling, frying and smoking. Color, smell, flavor, cut, and nutritional value are taken into careful consideration while preparing Chongqing dishes - no wonder people say that Chongqing food is not only appealing but also nutritious.
These days, you can't go anywhere in China without seeing throngs of diners munching tidbits of meat and vegetables from boiling bronze pots; but few tourists realize that hotpot was born and cultivated in Chongqing. Once upon a time, it was a seasonal food designed to protect against the low temperatures and frigid winds of winter. Now, in the height of its popularity, hotpot is eaten year-round. If you haven't yet indulged in hot pot, Chongqing is the perfect place to give it a try.
As you might imagine, hotpot restaurants grace almost every street in the city. Xiao Tian E (Cygnet Hot-Pot Palace) and E Zhang Men are two of Chongqing's most popular. The hotpot restaurants in the Chongqing 5-star Harbour Plaza also serve decent food in a cozy environment.
Although hotpot is probably the most well known delicacy in Chonqing, many savory treats may appeal to you. Some treats like Maoxuewang, Qianzhang, spiced salted peanuts and Youting Braised carp will give you the true flavor of Chongqing's cuisine. These local culinary delights are favorites of many locals, expats and travelers that come to visit Chongqing. So are the city snacks that the city is famous for.

Nanbin Food Street
Nanbin Road lies in a halo of neon lights along the southern bank of the Changjiang River. Many restaurants here feature Chongqing hotpot and spirited Jianghu cuisine; so many, in fact, that Nanbin has been nicknamed "Jianghu Cuisine Street" by natives. Enjoy a savory meal at Taoranju, Waipoqiao, Shunfeng 123, Laoyuan•Laodian, or any number of other excellent restaurants in the area.
Keyuan Food Street
One of the earliest gourmet streets to be popularized in Chongqing, Keyuan Gourmet street is divided into Keyuan Si Road and Keyuan San Street. Prices begin low, with family-run hotpot restaurants on Keyuan Si and continue to climb, reaching their height in the up-market Chongqing, Chengdu and Guangdong eateries on Keyuan San. The most famous of these are Taoranju, Dezhuang, Laifulou, and Xishurenjia.
Zhigang Food Street
Zhigang Road is located in the Yangjiaping Central Business Zone of Jiulongpo District. Zhigang's strongest draw is the endless choices of places to grab a bite, and numerous restaurants line either side of the street. The most lauded restaurants at this location are Caixianyuan, Qinma, Zuihechun, and Wulingshanzhen.
Jiazhou Food Street
It is a comprehensive food street that serves Chinese food, hotpot, western food, including Sichuan cuisine, Chongqing cuisine, and Cantonese cuisine, etc. It is a nice for commercial party or friends gatherings.

The most dramatic part of the River is the Three Gorges region; all Yangtze cruise itineraries include a cruise along this 240 km stretch. The three larger gorges on the Yangtze are the Qutang Gorge, the shortest and narrowest of the three with the most spectacular scenery; the Wu Gorge, noted for its magnificent lush green mountains frequently shrouded in mist, and the Xiling Gorge, at 75 km the longest of the three, with narrow, precipitous cliffs. In addition to the three large gorges, you will take a special cruise boat up the Daning River through the Lesser Three Gorges or along the narrow Shennong Stream. Narrower than the great gorges, the canyon scenery is even more dramatic, and Yangtze River cruise travelers can see a number of historical sites along the way like hanging coffins and the ancient plank road carved into the cliffside. The Three Gorges Dam, was originally envisioned by China’s first president Sun Yat-sen, to help control flooding along the Yangtze River, which had been a major problem for people living nearby. The rainy season in China is May - June south of the Yangtze River and July - August north of it, creating a four-month flooding season. Touring the Three Gorges Dam is one of the highlights of any Yangtze River cruise; because of the monumental scale and ambitious nature of the project.
Day 1. After morning visit the Chengdu Panda Breeding Base, transfer to Chengdu Eastern Train station for express train D5116 departs at 14:10 to Chongqing, 16:09 arrive in Chongqing and pick up and transfer to Chaotianmen Dock, boarding the boat 17:00-20:00 and the cruiser departs at 21:00.
Day 2. Morning sore excursion to Fengdu Ghost City on Mingshan Hill or optional excursion to Shibaozhai Temple
Day 3. Sail through Qutang Gorge and Wu Gorge and shore excursion to Shennong Stream from 1 pm to 3 pm, optional excursion to White Emperor City, and late afternoon sail through the Three Gorges Dam Ship Locks
Day 4. Morning excursion to the Three Gorges Dam, after lunch, disembark in Yichang and finish the trip.

Begin your Beijing adventure with pickup at the airport according to your flight schedule. In the arrival hall, look for a private guide bearing a sign with your name on it, then transfer to a waiting vehicle with your luggage, which will be kept safe during your tour.
Set out for the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, approximately 1.5 hours away by car. Relax in your comfortable private vehicle and listen as your guide fills you in on the history of this site. Once you arrive, take the shuttle to the base of the mountain, then a cable car or ski lift to the wall itself. Spend the next several hours hiking and exploring on foot.
Return to Beijing to explore the city landmarks, including the Olympic stadium area, the Hutong alleys, and the Drum tower area. In Tian'anmen Square, visit the Monument to the Peoples’ Heroes and the National Museum of China, then pass through the gates to the Forbidden City. Once the imperial palace for the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is now home to the Palace Museum.
