Yangmei Ancient Town

Yangmei Ancient Town Following the Zuo River down stream, about 30km from Nanning, is the village of Yangmei, a perfectly preserved Qing dynasty village. The village was once prosperous thanks to its convenient location to trade three sides of it are fronted by the river. Over 700 years old, the buildings reflect the wealth that once flowed through the streets and onto the waiting boats at the river’s edge. The preserved Qing Dynasty Street showcases Guangxi’s best remaining architecture from that period. Ornate roofs and eaves decorated with dragons and phoenixes jut out at every corner. More than just the buildings have been preserved; the village retains its rustic turn of the century atmosphere. The rustic village is more than a tourist attraction; it’s a living set for many films that use it as a backdrop for period architecture.

Qingxiu Mountain

The Qingxiu Mountain, is a national AAAA level scenic spot honored as the the 'green lung' of Nanning. With majestic hills and peaks, green trees and beautiful scenes, it was among the eight famous scenes in Nanning. In the area, ridges and peaks are rising and falling, mountains and hills are green, spring is clear and rocks are wonderful, it is famous for mountains not high but beautiful, waters not deep but clear.As a key spot for development and exploration in Nanning, Qingxiu Mountain has been under construction. Besides some old relics like the Dong Spring, Carving on the Jieqing cliff and Shixiang Shrine still keep preserving and repairing, new spots like the Tropical Rain Forest Park, the Palm Park and the Thai Park are built. The last one is designed by architects from Thailand, as a spot built in the project of cultural communication between Nanning city and Khon Kaen city in Thailand. Lao Zi was the creator of this religion. According to the Shi Ji, or Records of the Historian, by Sima Qian , Lao Zi was named Li Er, with Dan as his alias. He was a reputed thinker around 6th century B.C. There are many legends about Lao Zi but few historical records. He left a 5, 000-word book and went on his ox from Hangu Pass and to where nobody knows! Lao Zi's 5,000 words are rather concise compared to his profound ideological system but there were numerous books interpreting the true meaning of his book.

A Taoist phrase is to say an ordinary man can become immortal if he does good 3,000 times and accomplishes 800 exploits. Of course the number is symbolic. It requires people to do good without making it known to others as the gods will know it naturally, much like the Christian principle expressed in Matthew 6:3-4, "But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Tao is wu wei, namely Non-action. Non-action is to follow the rule of nature instead of overriding it. By conforming to the natural rules, Tao does nothing but it can do everything. Tao makes everything run smoothly but it does not boast about its own achievement. Those learning this religion should be pure and take non-action.

Recieving the American guests whose' father was the pilot over the Hump Routes during World War II

These beloved guests contacted me a few months before their arrival in Kunming. They were making a special trip to follow the steps of their father who was a pilot over the hump Routes during the war time. They first traveled to the Naga Hill, Inda, visiting the airport where their father was loading the medical goods, food, weapons, which was provided by the U.S. to the Chinese army during that time.

Before their arrival, i got in contact with the owner of the Hump Cafe in Kunming city center. And he was so kind to arrange his time to meet my clients, and shared interesting infomation together.

We visited the old Kunming Airport where their father used to unload the stuffs, and stayed shortly between the frequent flights. We also visited the Kunming Municipal Museam, where has a memorial hall exhibiting the information and relics of Humps Routes and Flying Tiger Team, during the World War II.

We also visited the Jiaoye Park, where has a monument memorizing the pilots over the Humps Routes. From there my lovely guests finished their pilgrimage of memorizing their beloved father. And i felt so hornered being there.

The clients are all retired people now, shining the passion and dignity of what life can bring. The whole journey was quite emotional. Sametime it makes me wonder if the world is the chess board of God, who might be too lonely sitting there.

Writing Brush

The earliest writing brush that has been found is a relic of the Warring States Period (476 BC – 221 BC). From that time onwards, the brush has evolved into many forms. The nib can be made from rabbit's hair, wool, horsehair, weasel's hair, or bristles, and so on; while the shaft may be made from bamboo, ivory, jade, crystal, gold, silver, porcelain, sandal, ox horn, etc. It is important to see that there can be both soft and hard brushes each producing their own particular styles.

The delicacy gives literators and painters inspiration for creation, and has led to brush shafts being decorated with artistic patterns. One prized example was an ivory-weasel's hair writing brush. On the ivory shaft with the diameter of 0.8 cm, there carved eight figures of the immortals and pavilions concealed seemingly in the clouds. With this in one's hand, the threads of writing would hardly halt.

Ink Stick
A good ink stick should be ground so as to be refined black with luster. With the invention of paper, they were improved accordingly. Since the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220), ink sticks have been made from pine soot, using other procedures that include mixing with glue, steaming and molding. In ancient times, emperors such Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911) had paid great attention to the production of ink sticks and were expert in their appreciation of quality inks.

Paper making is among the 'four great inventions' and one of the great contributions that ancient Chinese people made to the world.

Before the existence of paper, our ancestors utilized knots in cords to record events. They then carved on bone, ivory, tortoise shell and bronzes. For very many years they wrote on pieces of bamboo. There is a story that tells how Confucius was such an avid and diligent reader that he would wear away the strips of ox-leather used to bind the pages of bamboo books together. During the early Han Dynasty wealthy people would write upon white silk but this was beyond the reach of the majority as the cloth was so precious.

It was Cai Lun who made the valuable contribution and his research gave rise to paper. Afterwards, many varieties of paper were produced of different quality and usage. Today the Xuan paper originally made in Anhui Province still shines with its charm.

Ink Slab
The ink slab is the reputed head of the 'four treasures', for its sobriety and elegance has endured the passage of time. Through ink slabs, people can sample the artistic charm of sculpting and the ink stone's natural tints. Nearly all Chinese calligraphy enthusiasts hold that the star of ink slab is the Duanyan, ink slab produced in Duanzhou of Guangdong Province. It has its base a purple hue and enjoys the poetic name 'purple clouds'. It was always a tribute to the royal families during the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907)

First we will visit the 700 years old City wall, We will climb up from south gate and have a walk on the wall. We are not sure how many km we can walk, because of the renovating of the wall. Normally we will walk from south gate to the Yunlu Exit.

Then visit the Confucius temple, there is a old building named Dacheng Hall which is over 840 years old. From outside, we can see the big wood joints to lift the big roof around the building which is named Dougong. Due to this design, there are less columns inside the hall for giving the big space for the statues and the prayer. We have chance to see the Confucius statue and learn the philosophy of Confucius. If you like, you can pray for you and your children to get better study.

There is the Paper Cutting master named Wentao nearby the exit of Confucius temple. She is very smart and create the new style paper cutting with much more details and good wishes on it. Her products are made by hanks. It is worth to visit and buy as a souvenir from Pingyao. From the table standing and wall hangings. Please remember, take the red one because of red is the traditional and happy color. But the white one is the best. It is really difficult to choose, because of all of them are really nice.

Then you can have coffee break or tea break if you need at Chummy coffee, after this, visit the City god temple (ChenghuangMiao) which is most beautiful temple inside the wall.
