Located 20 kilometers northwest of Huairou, the so-called "black dragon" valley is home to a reservoir spanning 55.6 km, part of which is open to tourists for boating and yachting. Besides that, the mountain has a wild section of the Great Wall that has not been renovated. The hills here are not as steep as Longqing Gorge, while unique views of the Great Wall add much appeal. It is best to take a cable car up the mountains, explore by foot, and then walk down. The area offers various activities, including bungee jumping, hang gliding, and many various water activities. Visitors can either paddle on bamboo rafts and boats in the one meter deep southern part of the reservoir, or cruise on a boat in the northern part, where the waters run 40 to 50 meters deep. The apex of the gorge is called the Platform of the Jade Emperor and offers a wonderful view of the surrounding areas.

Featured Attractions: The scenic area has an area of 150 hectares and it is being divided into southern and northern parts by a big Miyun Reservoir and a majestic dam. The southern one is a tranquil flowing stream in which boats can be sailed while the northern is a high ground lake where boat and ferry services are provided. You can also swim in the lake or play football and volleyball on the beach along the lake's bank.

Located 8 km north of Huairou District is Yanqi Lake. Yanqi Lake is a beautiful scenic site at the foot of Yanshan Mountain. The Great Wall is to the north of the lake, and to the south is the boundless North China plain. The landscape of the area is beautiful. In the background, one can see the great mountain, in the foreground there is the clear water of the lake coupled with refreshing air.

In the spring and in the autumn, flocks of rare migrant birds, especially geese, inhabit the area, which forms part of the inspiration for the name -- Yanqi Lake, which translates literally as "Swan Lake." The scenic zone is equipped with various items of aquatic recreation, such as dragon boats, speedboats, jet skis and an aquatic para-glider. This ideal vacation site draws multitudes of tourists every year.

Hongluo Temple is a temple that is 4 kilometers away from the north of Huairou District in Beijing. It covers an area of 8 square kilometers and integrates the natural landscape with man-made features.

Built in the fourth year of the Xiankang (咸康) - a period of the Dongjin Dynasty, Hongluo Temple was renovated during Tang Dynasty. It was called Daming Temple at the time, and changed its name to “Huguozifu Temple” during the Ming Dynasty. This is how the Hongluo Temple received its popular name. The temple that we know as the Hongluo Temple today is one of the original sites for the practice of Buddhism in northern China. It is also regarded as the premiere ancient temple in Northern China. It has been said that the Hongluo Temple in north China is similar to the Putuo Temple in south China.

The three most prominent scenic areas of the temple complex are called Imperial Bamboo, Male and Female Gingko, and Pines Entangled with Chinese Wisteria. Imperial Bamboo, with origins that date back to more than 600 years, was first planted by Yunshan, a Buddhist monk in the Yuan Dynasty. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty enjoyed the sight of these bamboos here. There are millions of bamboos which form the bamboo grove, as one of the largest areas for bamboo with the longest history in northern China. From April to June enjoy the Peony and Chinese Wisteria Festival. From July to September enjoy the Summer Leisure Travel. October to September, the chrysanthemum and ginkgo festival will take place. Visitors should also see the Hongluo Temple Fair this year.

Jingdong Canyon features several historical attractions, a beautiful hike through apricot and pine trees as well as a small water park. Since it opened in 1992, many visitors have flocked to the area and it is a well-known scenic area in Beijing and Tianjin.

The canyon, also called Wulongtan (or Five Dragons’ Pool) Grand Canyon, covers 6 square kilometers and bounds with fantastic caves, deep ponds, bizarre peaks and running waterfalls. From an aerial view of the canyon, thanks to its many water surfaces, it looks like a glittering gem inlaid within the triangle formed by the three big cities of Beijing, Tianjing, and Tangshan.

The scenic area has more than 60 tourist attractions. At the bottom of the canyon, there are five deep ponds connected by brooks and six tourist function zones. Inside the canyon are numerous caves, deep pools, craggy peaks, splashing waterfalls, and an enormous reservoir. Hundreds of hectares of pine trees grow in the canyon. Under the upright pine trees there may be a small villa or a cute cabin with tents and hammocks where explorers can have a rest. It's lovely in all seasons: budding with life in spring, mantled in green in summer, blazing with color in autumn and starkly beautiful in winter as the evergreens and rock formations contrast with the white of snow. However, the best season to explore this vast natural wonder is in early autumn, in August or September.

Available activities depend on the season, with boating and fruit picking (late summer and fall) being among the most popular. The reservoir's 30-meter-high dam provides deep water and renders the zone a great place for those who are fond of water sports. You can follow a clear-running stream down the canyon, exploring hollows and caves along with the way. Thatched-roof cottages, tents and hammocks are available as resting spots. If you are looking for a break from the city, a taste of nature, a view of some mountains and a breath of semi-clean air, you should come here and check out the fantastic beauty of this canyon. Jingdong Canyon is located north of Yuzishan Village (鱼子山村) in Pinggu District (píng gǔ qū 平谷区), some 85 km (53 miles) east of downtown Beijing (běi jīng 北京).

Generally, Jingdong Shilinxia is divided naturally into eastern and western parts with both offering breathtaking views to all visitors. When you look from afar, the majestic stone forest might give you the feel of solemnity. However, when you get closer, you might accidentally find out that each and every stone is in fact molded in different shapes. Some of the stones look like giant bamboo that towers into the sky; some look like rampant lions, some like graceful ladies and many others are indescribable shapes. Nonetheless, they are incredibly magnificent.

Jiutian Feipu (Heaven Waterfalls): Jiutian Feipu (Heaven Waterfalls) is a four-tier waterfall which cascades down over 120 meters, when it rumbles, it can be heard even in quite a distance from the waterfall.

Lingtan Lianzhu (The Pools): There are a dozen of pools which never dry throughout the years because of the form of the gorge of Jingdong Shilinxia. All the pools are blessed with different shape and characteristic where some are shallow and some are deep. But all of them are blessed with serenity and peaceful surrounding.

Xiaxian Youshen (The Gorge): The six kilometers gorge itself is also a fantastic creation of God. The narrowest point throughout the gorge is only about three meters wide. When you walk between these narrow lanes within the gorge, you will feel how tiny a human being is when you are facing the mother of nature.

antic Rocks: The gigantic rocks, some with a weight of over 1,000 tons are another attraction found in the scenic area. The huge rocks are set at various places everywhere here. You may find some of them standing high above the cliffs and perhaps some are lying in the middle of walkways as well. These rocks offer the best resting point for visitors as when you are tired. Take a rest sitting on it and get recharged.

Hanging Cypress Tree: A great number of cypresses can be found growing out of the tall and steep cliffs of the mountain. When you look from bottom, all these cypresses seem as if they are hanging on the cliff side. Perhaps, this is a commonly seen image of classical Chinese paintings but when you are here, you can see the real hanging cypress trees on your own.

Located in the north of Haizi Village and on the eastern side of Pinggu District, Jinhai (Golden Sea) Lake is about 85 kilometers away from the city center of Beijing, sitting of the tip of a triangle that connects Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan and surrounded by mountain on three sides (east, west and north).

Also known as Golden Sea Lake, it borrows this name from the nearby Grand Gold Hill, which is well-known for being a rich gold resource. The Jinhai Lake site includes the Haizi Reservoir and a 27 square kilometer surrounding area. Haizi Reservoir covers a surface of 6.6 square kilometers and is the 3rd largest reservoir in Beijing with a capacity of 120 million liters of water. Initially erected in 1959, it was rebuilt in 1968 and expanded in 1974. The Jinhai Lake site first opened to the public in 1985 and has become quite a popular destination since then.

Camel Peak is one of the most famous spots in Jinhai Lake. Legend has it that a camel convoy was passing by this spot in the 17th century. Suddenly earth cracked underneath their feet and all camels but one fell in a huge hole that was formed. The very one that escaped the hole fell on the top of the hill and its legs got stuck between the rocks of the hill. That is how Camel Peak was formed. Sunset is the best time to view Camel Peak and you can take gorgeous pictures of the peak in a pink and orange background.

Placed on the top of Lanyu Hill, Huguang Tower is another popular site of Jinhai Lake. More than 30 meters high, this seven-storey tower is built in an octagon structure. It bears 56 bells –one placed on each corner of the tower- which rings in the wind and it consists of 168 decorative animal heads made out of clay.

Heng Hill holds the place of the most impressive site around the area. Furnished with pines and cypresses, its shape resembles a dragon diving into the lake. Various caves and fascinating rock formations make hiking on this hill an amazing experience. There are two huge giant footsteps according to a legend that the Immortal Erlang stepped on the hill. But that’s not the only story that comes with this place. It is also believed that this was the very place where two Taoists, Dong and Ge, fashioned pills of immortality in ancient times by capturing vital energy from the hill.

Qinglong Mountain Scenic Area is located at Dawangwu Village in Donggaocun Town in Pinggu, only 60 km from the urban areas of Beijing.

Inside the scenic area, there is Yuyang International Ski Resort and the Eco-Garden Restaurant and others. There is a hill at the foot of Qinglong Mountain. The center of the hill is wide and the back of it protrudes, like a dustpan used in a farmhouse and also like a palm of a man. Therefore, it is called “dustpan palm”.

Inside the valley is overwhelmed by vague light and mists. Walking towards the hill, you will be welcomed by bright light. The things around you are like lotus petals which cluster into a shape of a lotus cushion seated by a Buddha. Standing there, you will see everything of Pinggu’s scenery. At this moment, your heart is in peace and you have nothing to worry about. Jingdong Great Limestone Cave is located in the east part of Heidouyu Village in Pinggu District, 90 kilometers away from the city proper of Beijing. With beautiful natural landscapes, it is reputed as the "First Cave under the Sun".

While inside the cave, you can see several dozens of sites such as the "Long Hui Tian Shu", "Water Curtain Cave", "Xiangsi Fountain" and so on. The cave was formed more than 1.5 billion years ago with splendid views of stalagmite, stalactite, stone pipe, stone flower and so on. Besides, it also has very good accommodations and entertainment facilities such as ropeway, racecourse, whiffing garden, swimming pool and so forth.

Featured Attractions: Jingdong Great Limestone Cave is situated in Pinggu District. It is known as the Number One Ancient Cave under Heaven because of the grotesque rocks in the cave and its length of existence over 1.5 billion years old as estimated by scientists. In the cave there are various limestone formations, such as tubes, bamboo shoots, pearls, stalactites, pagodas, figures, animals, and flowers. The most eye-catching scene in the cave is a natural limestone relief of vivid dragons and inscriptions. It is the ideal place for visitors to enjoy mountain climbing, rock climbing, cycling, and etc. It is the one of the oldest eroded caves in the world. As a national AAAA-level tourist spot, the cave is the most popular spot in Pinggu District.

Beijing Wildlife Park is a large Ecological Park that specializes in animal protection, animal saving and wildlife training and reproduction. The park covers an area of 3,600 acres and brings together more than 10,000 rare wild animals of 200 species, including some very rare ones such as golden monkeys, green-tailed monals and brown-tailed monals and bustards as well.

In this park, you can watch animal shows by the elephants, golden monkeys, and various birds, like in most theme parks. After the show, it takes only 2 minutes to reach the bus for a 30 minutes tour that takes you around the parts of the park with dangerous animals from the wild, including lions, wolves, African hunting dogs, tigers, bears, baboons, wild boars, connochaetes, Oryx gazella, etc. At the end of the tour, you can take pictures with colorful parrots or marvel at how smart they are to take the big bills of money from your hand instead of the small ones. You can also watch many of the birds on display which are facing extinction. Special tropical bird exhibitions are arranged in the middle of the tour next to an area where you could feed and even talk to birds while they fly everywhere around you. What makes the Safari experience completely different from any other zoo is, for the first time, you can see the animals and birds engaging in their natural active lives, prowling, hunting, grazing, pecking and playing.

With an area of about 20,000 square meters, Wendu Water City is one of the most advanced water relaxation centers in Asia, all on the theme of water and in the form of point-supported glass curtain walls with a curved roof which can be opened in summer and the Water Space has a capacity of 3,000 people. The sunshade shutters on the south side is adjustable to control the access of sunlight. The Water Space offers standard indoor swimming pools, artificial waves, skateboard surfing, space basin, competitive speed skating, drifting channel, interactive water house, beach, children's pool, family interaction area, food and beverage area, semi-groundwater cafe, store, leisure area, VIP rooms, etc.

It is worth mentioning the masterly design of the lifting stage in the water, which is used for holding distinctive singing and dancing performances (often with a water theme), goes along together with water weddings, fashion shows and other large-scale activities. The indoor and outdoor pools flow into one another, as does the outdoor swimming pools and the 12 hot spring spa pools. The indoor and outdoor spaces mingle with and provide a background for one another, bringing about rich content and distinct aspects to the this large-scale water space for families, children and adolescents. The Water Space is connected with the Hot Spring Healthy Clubhouse and the cafeteria on the second floor of Commercial Street through a linking glass aisle.

To the north of the Water Space, there is a large-scale parking lot which can hold up to 586 cars and 23 coach buses. An 140 meter long fountain has been set up along the main road with a water column of up to 12 meters. Flaming pillars, which are water-spraying giant whales made of syenite and a jumping spring arcade have been built along both sides of the main entrance and directly accesses to the circular main entrance of the Water Space.

On May 20th, 2005, the former “Copper Well” in Prince’s Palace was found at the north entrance of the water space. It is said that the “Copper Well” used to supply drinking water specifically for the Pingxi Prince. The walls of the well was built with grey bricks by imperial orders under a special baking process so it makes the well’s golden yellow coating on the surface is still clearly visible to this day. According to the analysis of historical data, the yellow coating might be copper paint, which would explain the name of “Copper Well”. The depth of the Well is 7.2 meters and the depth of the water is 3.19m. The well water is cool, crystal and sweet and can be drunk directly from the Well.
