Located on Guozijian Street inside Anding Gate, the Temple of Confucius in Beijing is the place where people paid homage to Confucius during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The Temple of Confucius was initially built in 1302 and additions were made during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It has a total area of 22,000 square meters (5.4 acres). It is the second largest temple constructed for Confucius, the greatest thinker and educationalist in ancient China, ranking only behind the Temple of Confucius in Qufu, Shandong Province.

This temple consists of four courtyards. The main structures include Xianshi Gate (Gate of the First Teacher), Dacheng Gate (Gate of Great Accomplishment), Dacheng Hall (Hall of Great Accomplishment) and Chongshengci (Worship Hall). Dacheng Hall is the main building in the temple, where the memorial ceremony for Confucius was often held. Inside the temple one can see that 198 stone tablets are positioned on either side of the front courtyard, containing 51,624 names of Jinshi (the advanced scholars) of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Also 14 stone stele pavilions of the Ming and Qing dynasties hold the precious historical information of ancient China.

Featured Attractions: In the temple, you can also find remarkable pictures like two flying dragons playing a pearl among clouds, which are believed to be used only in the imperial palaces because dragon stands for emperor in ancient China. From those, it is easy to imagine the importance of the Confucius Temple in the feudal society of China.

The Badaling Remnant Great Wall is located in Donggou Village, Badaling Town of Yanqing District. It is about 65 kilometers (40 miles) from Beijing. This section of the Great Wall is about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the famous Badaling stretch, and is nearby the western gate of the military defense system on the Badaling Great Wall. Seen from a distance, the Badaling Remnant Great Wall resembles a dragon winding its way along the mountain peaks. With lofty ridges and towering mountains, the deep trenches and high embankments all contribute to the fortification of this strategically crucial section of the Great Wall. Surviving the vicissitudes of nearly 2,000 years, the walls dominate the scene with an indelible mark made by history. The remnant wall, with its ubiquitous broken body, conveys a peculiar glamour. This section of the Great Wall is in its original form, and exemplifies the character of the Ming Dynasty’s Great Wall. The whole section is 2,000 meters long, but only about 100 meters are open to tourists. Two routes are easily accessible to tourists that plan to enjoy the splendid panorama of the Great Wall at their leisure.

Featured Attractions: The tourist line starts from the watch tower at the opening of the remnant Great Wall, and stretches upwards along the mountains. Tourists can see the damaged walls, collapsed openings, and broken towers. To facilitate the tourists, there are wooden steps and handrails to ensure the safety of tourists. According to the research by experts, there are two ancient sites of great archaeological significance. One is the stone material field where stones were taken to build the Great Wall. There are still huge stones with clear signs of cutting; another place is the brick kiln which was used to produce the Great Wall’s bricks.

The BEST way to travel along the river in Guangzhou. The party tram wisks you along offering great views. Almost every stop has something worth stoppping for and it makes a great, and easy, day out. The stops are:

Guangzhou Tower – climb the tallest structure in the city for some amazing views, it is a very expensive ticket up to the top so not for those on a budget.

Guangzhou Tower East – my suggestion is to walk between these two stops (only a 10 min walk) at night to enjoy the very impressive lights on the other side of the river.

Liede Bridge South – Walk over this bridge for some great views, and, on the other side, a recently restored ancient town (and great coffee shops)

Party Pier – stop off for bars and restaurants – and the local beer museum

Nanchang - not a lot here at the moment aside from nice river views

Convention Centre East – a walk around a pretty park...feed some ducks or ride a bike

Convention Centre Middle -

Convention Centre West – stop off for lunch at the impressive Shangri-la hotel

Pazhou Bridge South – a short walk to the next stop will taken you past the newly restored Pazhou Pagoda and through some new, and beautiful, gardens

Pazhou Pagoda – a view of the pagoda can be had here

Wangshangwei – visit the Guangzhou metro museum, new shopping malls and more here.

Take the metro to Wanshangwei or Canton Tower

First set-up by the Harbin Municipal Government in 1999, Harbin Ice and Snow World is by far the largest ice and snow art exhibition in the world. It is commonly referred to as possessing four of the key 'mosts': the most art attractions, the most beautiful night views, the most recreational activities and the most forms of entertainment. Furthermore, the festival is constantly evolving and each year brings with it a new theme, providing visitors with a totally unique experience from one year to the next.

The ice carvings at the Ice and Snow World are regarded as some of the world's finest examples of ice art, with visitors able to admire some of the largest and most majestic ice-sculpted masterpieces. Each of these ice carvings are designed in some way related to the festival's theme, enabling travelers to sample a variety of cultural flavors. For example, in its first year the festival's layout was designed around the idea of 'Prosperous China and High-flying Longjiang', with the ice carvings depicting the rapid development of the country. In 2005, the theme was 'Friendship between China and Russia', with all the sculptures fashioned in a typical Russian style. Among them were replicas of some of Russia's most famous architecture, such as the East Palace, and Moscow's Red Square.

One of the highlights for any visitor to the festival is to visit the site at night when multicolored lights set underground illuminate the sculptures, revealing a whole new colorful dimension to the exhibits. The contrasts of the bright and dazzling lights against the dark night sky make the works look all the more spectacular.
