The Hong Kong International Airport
...
The Hong Kong International Airport
The Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok (赤角), Lantau Island (大屿山) is the gateway to Hong Kong. Opened in July 1998, it replaced the Kai Tak Airport in Kowloon City.
Arrival Hall (到达大厅)
Although there are two exits, A and B, at the arrival hall, relatives and friends should have no problem finding their loved ones as they come off the flights because there is an electronic display board available which lists the exits for each flight. There are also a few big televisions displaying the arriving passengers at both exits.
Departure Tax (离境税)
Airport tax is usually included in the ticket price. However, it is best to confirm with your travel agent first. Otherwise, please keep HK$120 with you to pay on departure. The tax is waived for all passengers who arrive and leave on the same day.

Traveling to and from the Airport (往返机场)
Airport Express
You may take the Airport Express Line operated by Mass Transit Railway (MTR), the subway service provider of Hong Kong. It is the fastest and most reliable means of transportation. The fare for a single journey is HK$100 traveling to orfrom Hong Kong Station and HK$90 for Kowloon Station on the Airport Express Line. The ticket vending machines and the platform are on the same floor as the arrival hall.
To bring more convenience to the travelers, Free In-town Check-in Service is provided to passengers departing Hong Kong. They can check in early at the Hong Kong Station or Kowloon Station before heading to the Airport.
Airport Express Shuttle Bus
Airport Express also provides a free shuttle bus service between Hong Kong / Kowloon Station and some hotels on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. They also have stops at major locations such as Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Pacific Place, Kowloon Canton Railway (KCR) Hung Hom Station, and MTR Jordan Station.
Bus
There are a number of buses that connect the airport with Lantau Island, Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories. Buses traveling between Hong Kong Island / Kowloon and the airport have numbers that start with either A or E. A-buses are more suitable for travelers as they skip some stations in Tung Chung residential area and airport organizations. The fare for an A-bus is about HK$50 while that of an E-bus is about HK$25.
Taxi
Since the airport has moved to Chek Lap Kok, taking a taxi to and from the airport is more expensive than before whenit was located in Kowloon City. On top of the taxi fare, passengers are required to pay a HK$30 toll for using the Lantau Link. The estimated taxi fares are:
- about HK$30 to/from Tung Chung MTR station
- about HK$250 to/from Tsuen Wan in New Territories
- about HK$300 to/from Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon
- about HK$350 to/from Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island
