Many Sephardic Jews settled in Dubrovnik following their expulsion from Spain and Portugal. Even if the life in the ghetto had not always been easy Yeshayah Cohen, (a 16th century philosopher and poet) wrote: If I had to find a peaceful place to rest in my old age, above any other city I would fancy only Dubrovnik.

This tour will start from the western city gate - Pile - and will include the main landmarks of the Old Town (exteriors only) such as the Rector's Palace, the Old Port, the Franciscan Monastery, Onofrio's Fountain, etc. and then towards the eastern end of Stradun, the main street, a narrow alley is home to a tiny synagogue dating from the 15th century. Žudioska Ulica (Jewish Street) is where the Jewish ghetto used to be. Apart from visiting the sanctuary we shall take a peek into the small museum which contains valuable menorahs and Torah scrolls, alongside information on the history of the Jewish community in Dubrovnik.
