The Panam City, Built In Sonargaon-The Once Capital of Bangladesh, Was Built By Some Bangladeshi Cloth Merchants in the 19th century. This city is Now in Ruins. During the time of its development, Business of cotton and other cloths were developed based on this city which helped Sonargaon to get its Heritage back a little. In the first part of the 20th century, Some Rich Hindu Businessmen Started to Live Permanently in the Panam city With Family. They lived in the Still Remaining Ruins of the Buildings. In those Days, Panam City was the wealthiest city of East Bengal. In the city still Remains 52 Buildings. Artificial canals have been made surrounding the city. These canals was dug as a defense system to protect the city from outside attack. There was only one Bridge to enter the city. Each building has a pond behind them, built for household works. After the blood-shed war of India-Pakistan in 1965, all Hindu Businessmen went to India left the city as a desert. In 2006, This historical city has been listed in the World 100 Ruined city by World Monument Fund.
