Among numerous hutongs in Beijing City, the most attractive is Zhuanta Hutong located south of the Xisit T-junction in Xicheng District. This hutong has hardly changed at all over the 700 years since its establishment during the Yuan Dadu period, and even its name is the original.
Zhuanta Hutong gets its name from the Wansong Laoren, whose given name was Cai Xingxiu, was a famous master of Buddhism in the late Jin Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty, who put forward the idea of "governing the state with Confucianism and cultivating the mind with Buddhism", which exerted farreaching influence at that time.
