Yushu is a traditonal kham region. The town has multi-ethnic. Most inhabitants there are tibetans while most of the han people are doing business there. It has over 250,000 people.

The three most famous rivers all originate from this area, Yantze River, the yellow river and the Lancang River.

There are several place of interest that worth visiting, temple of the princess Wencheng, Gyegu Monastery, and the Mani Stone Stack.
