`A visit to Bifengxia Panda Base, 150 kilometres from Chengdu, be a voluntee at the Panda Reserve. Be a volunteer to work as a Panda keeper.

It is an unique opportunity to get up close and personal with Panda - both the baby pandas and the grown ups! 

Bifengxia is the largest Panda base in China. In the last 2 years, the volunteers work at the Bifengxia Panda base has witness that the panda population has doubled, which is an amazing achievement. The care you provide will genuinely help the Panda Reserve to protect these animals from extinction.

Day 1      Monday       Arriving and pickup

 

We pickup up volunteers from Chengdu airport 

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport

The airport is relatively small and there is only one exit for international arrival and one for domestic arrival. So our representative will hold your name sign, meeting you at the exit.

 

Then you will be transferred to Chengdu Traffic Hostel. Free time for the rest of the day. We will go to Bifengxia Panda Base tommoroow morning.

Chengdu Traffic Hostel

lt is close to the Chengdu XinNanMen bus station. Most of the buses going to other areas of this province depart from this station.  This hotel is clean, comfortable, fairly quiet and close to a number of good dining spots. The hotel is recommended by Lonely Planet.   It is 1-kilometers from the city center. 16-kilometers from the Airport. 4-kilometers from the railway station.

Panda Base Briefing

A general briefing of Bifengxia Panda Base will be hosted today.   For people who have booked their own hotel in Chengdu, please take a taxi to the Chengdu Traffic Hostel by yourself before 09h00 to attend the Briefing.

 

Orientation tour in Chengdu

After lunch you will be taken to show around the city of Chengdu. Visit Green Ram Taoism Temple Visit Kuan-zhai Alley – a famous old pedestrian street with well-preserved traditional architecture, many small shops for souvenirs and it's a nice place for relax. Visit Chunxi Street - Business Center of Chengdu. Welcome Dinner around 6pm.

Day 2       Tuesday       Bifengxia Panda Base

Transfer to Bifengxia Panda Reserve by bus in the morning. Lunch at the Panda Conservation base. In the afternoon, visit Panda Reserve office to get registered as Volunteer, get working uniform and staff card. Take a tour of the Panda Conservation Base. Watching DVD to get basic knowledge of Pandas. Meet your Trainer/ the Panda Keeper.   Dinner.

From Day 2, you will stay overnight in Wenfeng Hostel, it is in the walking distance to volunteering working place; It is a new building with new /better facilities; still simple but clean; 24-hot water automatically without pluging in the electrity every time. Please note the hostel is relatively basic and is run by local villagers. You will be sharing a room with another volunteer. All rooms have electric blankets and an attached bathroom with 24 hour hot water.

Day 3 - 5       Wednesday, Thursday, Friday       Bifengxia Panda Base

Volunteering at the Panda Conservation Base. Work as an assistant of the Panda Keeper: Clean the bedroom and the garden for the giant panda Prepare food, such as: carrot, apples, panda bread and biscuit. Chop and carry the bamboo. Occasionally you are needed to help the scientists to collect the behavior data.

Day 6 - 7       Saturday, Sunday       Bifengxia Panda Base

Free time. Recommend you to walk around nearby mountains in Bifengxia Panda Base. The birthplace of Panda is extremly beautiful.

Day 8 - 12       Monday to Friday       Bifengxia Panda Base

Volunteering at the Panda Conservation Base. Work as an assistant of the Panda Keeper: Clean the bedroom and the garden for the giant panda Prepare food, such as: carrot, apples, panda bread and biscuit. Chop and carry the bamboo. Occasionally you are needed to help the scientists to collect the behavior data.

Day 13       Saturday       Depart

At 8am, transfer to Chengdu airport by bus (150km/3 hours). Lunch on your own.  Recommend your flight should not be earlier than 2pm departing from Chengdu.
