Starting at the port, a 40 minute stroll will take us to the most picturesque corners of Aghios Nikolaos' port town and round its' lake that has been the setting for a Greek movie in the 70's.Then we board the bus to go as far as a small factory that produces organic essential oils from local aromatic plants and cosmetics.We shall visit their herbarium to familiarize ourselves with the Cretan flora and afterwards the establishment's folklore museum and shop.We shall continue 20 min. away to Kritsa village, situated on the eastern slopes of the Lasiti mountains where the ancient Geeks believed god Zeus was born, to look at ceramics, handmade jewelry,hand-blown glass items and others.We can sample the healthy cretan cuisine at the local tavernas, drink wine, tsikoudia and sit in the shade of old plane trees.After lunch we drive back to Aghios Nikolaos.
