Taking photos in China

We all like to take some great photos to show off to our friends and family, and to record images of our trip.

Here's a few pointers for taking photos of people in China.

Generally, people don't mind if you take their photo, when you are in a touristy place, but always ask first, because some people object to their photo being take, for a whole number of reasons.

The best way is to be put away your camera, and develop some rapport with the people you hope to photograph. Then once they have gained your trust, then you can take out your camera and ask if it is OK.

In some places you might be expected to give a donation or pay for people, particularly if they are in ethnic costume.

Try to show the photos on the screen to the subjects, and if you can, get copies made for them.

Remember, behave the way you would at home (or even better).
