Tour Description

We'll visit two wineries in Colmenar de Oreja from the XVI and XIX centuries. The wines are great (Demonitation of Origin Madrid). We'll have lunch at a restaurant managed by a great chef.

On this tour, we'll travel to Colmenar de Oreja and visit the main tourist sites of the town, founded by Ancient Romans more than 2, 000 years ago under the name "Aurelia". It's worth mentioning that in this town, there's a museum dedicated to the painter Ulpiano Checa, whose main pictures inspired the Ben-Hur movie chariot race and the principal Roman decorations.

In Colmenar, we'll have a delicious tasting of local wines and cheese and a guided visit to one the oldest wineries in town that keep their wines ageing inside. It has a cave that holds a temperature of 15 degrees throughout the year. I used to have 2 wineries myself, so you can count on me giving you special input here.

In Colmenar de Oreja we'll see:

-Main Square. A beautiful porticoed square.

-Santa María la Mayor Church, a huge church built in the XII century and rebuilt in the XVI century.

-Ulpiano Checa Museum.

-Casa de la Cadena, a palace from the XVII century.

-Convento de la Encarnación. A convent, XVII century.

-Fuente Zacatín.

-Túnel Zacatín. A picturesque tunnel that crosses the town underground.

-Bodegas Peral. We'll enjoy a complete tasting of local wines and cheese.

-Hermitage of the Cristo del Humilladero.

We'll have lunch at "Bodegas Narciso Figueroa", an old winery of the XVI century and visit the original cave where wine was aged. The chef has more than 30 years of experience and he'll cook some of the classic dishes of Madrid in front of us.
