Chinese workers resisted bravely and fiercely, though. The years 1922 and 1923, the very first wave of labor strikes by Chinese workers happened, and the famous climax was the February Seventh Incident. Jinghan Railway laborers in Changxindian (长辛店) had already set up their own union in 1919. The wages at the time were fairly low that the workers' life had been so harsh. In summer of 1922, they went on strike to ask for higher salary. At last the yearly wage was added thirty-six Yuan for each worker.
