Tour Description
Harbin is famous for Jewish history, there were more than 20,000 Jewish Russian living in Harbin in 1920s. They are very smart people, and they opened lots of business in Harbin at that time. Most of Jewish people left Harbin at the end of 1940s or at the beginning of 1950s. Eventually, they went to Israel, America, Canada, Australia, Russia, etc for settlement. Luckily enough, many of those Jewish historical heritages are preserved very well nowadays in Harbin, such as new synagogue, old synagogue, Jewish hotel, bank, school, hospital, restaurant, shop, free soup kitchen, nursing home, Judaic Emigrant Association, etc.
Every year, there are many Jewish people from over all the world coming to Harbin to see the old Jewish sites, and some of them were even born in Harbin and went to school here when they were very young. They went back to their second home town Harbin to experience the Jewish culture and customs again, so when I bring them to see the Jewish cultural heritages, and help them find their old birth palace and old school they ever went to, they were very excited, some of them were moved and their eyes were full of tears, I was even deeply touched at that moment.
